Job Description
About the Role
If you’re someone who enjoys a challenge and has lived experience supporting addiction, we’d love to hear from you. This role is designed for someone who understands the realities of addiction, the value of residential treatment, and the importance of strong support both pre and post treatment.
You will walk alongside whaiora as an equal—supporting them through the ups and downs of treatment, helping them stay connected, and ensuring their voices are heard within the residential environment.
In this role, you will:
Use your lived experience to provide authentic, non‑judgemental peer support
Walk alongside whaiora as they navigate treatment, without taking on an authoritative role
Encourage participation in daily routines, community activities, and wellbeing practices
Advocate for whaiora, ensuring their needs and perspectives are recognised
Help bridge communication between whaiora and staff
Facilitate a weekly peer support group and contribute to house meetings
Complete general support worker duties that help maintain a safe, positive, and empowering environment
Keep clear, accurate documentation to support progress
And most importantly, help ensure whaiora feel valued, supported, and hopeful about their future
Desired Skills and Experience
