Job Description

About the Role

We’re looking for a calm, reliable, and observant Awake Night Support Worker to join our Dunedin Youth team. This role is ideal for someone who prefers independent work and needs flexibility in their schedule.

You’ll be awake throughout the night, ensuring the safety and well-being of our rangatahi while they sleep. Your presence provides reassurance and stability — and you’ll step in only if support is needed. It’s a solitary role, but a vital one. This role provides consistency with full-time hours, whilst offering unique rhythm to your work week. If you’re someone who values meaningful work, clear routines and the opportunity to make a quiet but powerful impact, we’d love to hear from you.

In this role, you will:

  • Stay alert and responsive throughout the night
  • Provide support only if the client wakes or needs assistance
  • Maintain a calm, structured environment
  • Complete light household tasks and documentation
  • Communicate clearly with the day team to ensure continuity of care

Desired Skills and Experience

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone with:

  • A steady, grounded presence and the ability to stay awake and focused overnight
  • Experience supporting youth or vulnerable individuals (personal or professional)
  • A resilient, no-nonsense attitude paired with genuine care
  • Strong communication and observational skills
  • A full NZ driver’s licence
  • A relevant qualification (e.g. NZ Cert in Health & Wellbeing Level 4) or willingness to work towards one
  • The right to work in New Zealand

Why Join Us?

We’re a supportive, down-to-earth team that shows up for each other and the people we support. If you’re someone who thrives in quiet environments, values consistency, and wants to make a difference — even in the stillness of night — we’d love to hear from you.

Please do not apply unless you already have the right to work in New Zealand. We are unable to help with visa sponsorship.
