Job Description
About the Role
Are you calm under pressure and passionate about supporting people with complex needs? We’re looking for full-time support workers in Lower Hutt to work alongside clients with intellectual disabilities, mental health challenges, and forensic backgrounds.
This is a highly rewarding but demanding role. You will need to be confident in managing aggressive and challenging behaviours while maintaining a safe, structured, and positive environment.
In this role, you will:
Provide consistent, person-centred support tailored to individual needs
Assist with daily routines, well-being, and community participation
Safely manage and de-escalate aggressive or high-risk situations
Model positive behaviours and encourage skill-building and independence
Maintain accurate documentation to support progress and compliance
Foster trust, resilience, and hope in a structured environment
Desired Skills and Experience
What you’ll bring
Our Lower Hutt team is looking for someone with:
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
A positive attitude and calm approach in challenging situations
A genuine passion for helping others grow and succeed
A full driver’s licence and basic computer skills
A relevant qualification (e.g. Level 4 Mental Health) — or willingness to work toward one once you’re on board
Must have the right to work in New Zealand
